Corn Plant, Dracaena Fragrans Golden Heart 6″ pot

Category:

Dracaena is a vertical growing plant that has variegated leaves. They will grow fine in a low light setting as long as there is a window in the room it should be happy. Keep it out of direct sunlight to prevent sunscald on its foliage. They are a slow grower, and require light fertilization during spring and summer.

They don’t like soggy roots so it’s recommended to add perlite to your soil mix to keep the soil aerated. Allow the soil to dry out before watering but water promptly. They look great clustered together in a pot and that also helps to ensure they use up the moisture in a larger pot quickly. They can be sensitive to chlorine, salt, and mineral build up, water enough so that it drains out the bottom and rinses away some of that salt build up. If your plant is suffering from tap water use spring, rain water, or occasionally use distilled water to remove some of the extra minerals

Dracaenas are susceptible to the usual pest such as spider mites, scale and mealybugs. Inspect them for these pests if you see yellowing or damage. Spraying them down from time to time will help remove dust and pest, keeping them looking fresh and absorbing light to grow. If pests are a problem, insecticidal soap or a systemic pesticide should help. Fungus gnats and root rot are also something to watch out for, but likely your dracaena would already be showing signs of over watering before it’s an issue. Increase the light or amend the soil to help them dry out.

Dracaenas are toxic to pets, so keep curious snackers away.
